Entertaining and educating families since 1859, The Philly Zoo never fails to bring a smile to my girls' faces (and mine).Despite its age, the zoo has kept up with the times. When I was a kid, I'd take the trolley from 63rd Street with my grandmom and cousins. Wasn't a whole lot of things to do besides look at the animals. Except ride the monorail. After all, it's a zoo, right?
Well the monorail went the way of the DoDo and has been replaced by a hot air baloon. There is is no lack of non-animal-watching activities - from face painting to pop-culture themed educational exhibits. I also think there's a lot less people taking the trolley, too, based on the the expanded parking lots.

Some things have withstood the march of time, like the bronze statues that serve as photo opp stops, the ever-smelly primate house, the petting zoo, a cool ice cream cone on a hot Philly day, among others. And the the joy of spending a day with our children free from the cares of this world.
Long Live the Philadelphia Zoo!
